ComplySci® Stats: 84% of compliance professionals have seen their scope increase during the pandemic

Sep 10, 2021

Compliance teams face unique challenges as firms shift to hybrid and remote workforces. Scalable and automated compliance processes will be critical.

It’s undeniable that the pandemic has fundamentally changed the way we work. The temporary shift to remote work has now been in place for nearly 18 months, and return-to-office plans continue to be disrupted by evolving concerns around the Delta variant, vaccines, COVID-19 surges, and shifting employee sentiments around remote work.

As compliance sits at the nexus of where policies meet people within an organization, compliance teams have faced unique pressures throughout the pandemic. This was evident in the results of a ComplySci® Stats survey of compliance professionals conducted during ComplySci’s recent webinar, Navigating Return to Work Policies.

We asked about the pandemic’s impact on the role of compliance at organizations and learned:

  • 84% of attendees have seen their compliance scope increase during the last 18 months.

And this scope increase shows no sign of slowing down. When asked about return-to-office plans, the majority of those surveyed expect their firms to move to move to hybrid or flexible policies for employees:

  • 47% of attendees anticipate a hybrid policy mandating a mix of in-office and remote
  • 29% of attendees anticipate a flexible policy offering employees a choice of in-office, hybrid, or remote

As firms shift to more remote and hybrid workforces, compliance teams will need to leverage technology tools to scale and automate compliance processes to gain more insight into employee activities and their potential impact on the organization.
